MENLO PARK, Calif. – Meta today introduced changes to Facebook’s event discovery tools. The goal is simpler. Users will find more relevant local happenings. This update uses stronger location signals.
Finding nearby events was often hard. People saw suggestions far away or not interesting. The new system focuses on where users actually are. It also considers places they often visit. This makes the suggestions more useful and timely.
The improvements use several signals. User location settings provide the main data. Check-ins and event interactions also help. Past event attendance refines future suggestions. Facebook Groups based on location influence results too. This creates a clearer picture of local interests.
“People want to connect in their neighborhoods,” said a Meta spokesperson. “This update helps them discover events down the street. It supports local businesses and communities. It makes Facebook more valuable for real-world connections.”
Users should notice the difference soon. Event recommendations in the “Discover” section and News Feed will change. The updates roll out globally starting today. They work on both Android and iOS apps. The desktop version gets the changes later.

Meta states user privacy controls remain unchanged. Location sharing is optional. Users manage their settings. The system only uses data people choose to share. Finding a local concert or market should now be easier.
